Corrective Exercises For Back Pain Relief

If you experience lower back pain, there are a few things that you can do to improve your comfort. When you experience pain it is easy to want to take a break or rest instead of doing exercises. But movement and exercises can improve or reduce your pain. When you complete corrective exercises that strengthen your back, legs or stomach muscles you are helping support your spine. When you strengthen your core muscles you will be able to lessen your pain and discomfort. However, not all exercises are appropriate for all people/ability levels/pain levels. Please talk and review your exercise regimen with a professional for your own safety.

To improve your core, try doing a partial crunch exercise. These types of exercises help strengthen your back and stomach muscles. Lie down with your back on the floor. Bend your knees and cover your arms over your chest or hold them behind your head. Raise your shoulders an inch or two off the floor. Hold for one second and then lower back down. Repeat 10 times. Keep your feet and lower back on the floor at all times.

You can strengthen and stretch your hamstrings easily as well. Use a resistance band or a towel if you don’t have one. Lie on the ground on your back. Bend one knee and wrap the resistance band around your foot. Hold your band and slowly straighten out your bent leg into the air. Gently hold it for 10 to 20 seconds. Repeat for both legs.

Another exercise to reduce back pain is the sitting exercise. This is when you hold yourself against the wall as if you are sitting in a chair, using only your back and legs for resistance. Start by standing next to the wall. Lean with your back flat and then slowly slide down to a point of control or where your knees are slightly bent. Hold for 10 seconds and then come back up the wall. Repeat 10 times.

These simple exercises can help increase your core strength and reduce your lower back pain. Take a few minutes to try these out today!
