How To Safely Get Rid Of The Crick In Your Neck

There’s nothing worse than waking up with a crick in your neck. They’re incredibly uncomfortable and you may have no idea how you got it. You may have slept on your neck wrong, strained it in some way, or done something to it while exercising. A crick in your neck can make even the most mundane tasks difficult and through off your entire day. There’s nothing you want more than some quick relief. If you find yourself with this type of nagging pain you have some options. Here’s what to do if you have a crick in your neck.

Using heat

A little heat can help to relax aching, tense muscles. The heat will also sooth some of the inflammation. Try a heating pad directly on the painful area for a bit. Once the muscles calm down a little try stretching the neck for added relief. If you don’t have a heating pad trying soaking in a hot bath or shower. If neither of those are available you can try applying Icy Hot or Tiger Balm.

See a chiropractor

Going to the chiropractor is a great choice if you’re experiencing spine or neck pain. A good chiropractor will be able to determine the cause of the crick in your neck. They will then adjust you to get you back in alignment and relieve your pain. When your neck or spine are out of alignment they can create tension which is the cause of the crick in your neck. You should start feeling relief pretty quickly after your adjustment.

Try and over the counter pain reliever

Pain relievers like ibuprofen or Tylenol can be great if the pain is mild. It can help if the pain is short-lived and no more than moderate in intensity. If the pain is extreme or long lasting you might need something stronger. Make an appointment with your doctor to make sure you don’t have a serious injury if the pain is extreme.

Massage

Your own hands might do the trick. Some nice, light massage on the area can help relieve inflammation and tension. If you ask nicely you may be able to get a friend or family member to lend a hand. If you have a little extra cash seeing a massage therapist is a great option. They can get to the root of the problem without further injuring you and leave you feeling relaxed.
